Grumblethorpe (John Wister House)

Grumblethorpe is an 18th-century Germantown country house built circa 1744 and associated with the Wister family. During the 1777 Battle of Germantown British forces occupied the house and used it as a field hospital; the building retains original woodwork and decorative finishes from the period. The site operates as a historic house museum interpreting colonial life and the Revolutionary-era history of Germantown.
