Helen J. Stewart, 'First Lady of Las Vegas'

Helen J. Stewart (1830–1926) was an early non‑Native settler and landowner who managed the Las Vegas Ranch and later sold land that contributed to the creation of the Las Vegas townsite. Local histories commonly call her the 'First Lady of Las Vegas' because of her role in the valley's settlement and development. Her life and connection to early Las Vegas settlement are interpreted at the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park.
