McMillan Sand Filtration Plant (decommissioned site)

The McMillan Sand Filtration Plant, a 25-acre water filtration site constructed in the early 20th century, was decommissioned in 1986 and its brick buildings and underground sand filter cells have been largely unused since then. The site at the north end of the McMillan Reservoir has remained fenced and subject to prolonged redevelopment, preservation, and community disputes about reuse and restoration. Its derelict structures and historic underground infrastructure are central to ongoing planning debates.
