Presqui'ile

Presqui'ile is a historic house located in Hampstead Village, Charleston, South Carolina, built between 1802 and 1808. The name, meaning 'peninsula' in French, reflects its original setting on elevated ground surrounded by marshes. Designed possibly by Gabriel Manigault, the house features exquisite Adamesque woodwork and a striking spiral staircase. Over the years, it has seen various owners, including notable figures like Henry Grimke and the Baptist Association. Currently functioning as a law office, Presqui'ile has earned recognition with Carolopolis Awards and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, showcasing its architectural and historical significance.
