Chicano Park takeover and creation

On April 22, 1970, community activists and residents occupied land beneath the San Diego–Coronado Bridge in Barrio Logan to block construction of a California Highway Patrol station and to demand a public park. The occupation resulted in the establishment of Chicano Park, which features one of the largest collections of outdoor Chicano murals painted by local artists. The park's creation is a documented example of community-led protest and cultural expression in San Diego.
