The Alamo - buried mission and presidio remains

Archaeological excavations at the Alamo (Mission San Antonio de Valero) have uncovered buried 18th-century mission and presidio foundations, privy and midden deposits, and artifacts spanning the Spanish colonial and early Republic eras. Investigations have revealed earlier walls and construction phases beneath the standing compound and Alamo Plaza. These buried deposits have been used to clarify the site's sequence of construction and its development within downtown San Antonio.
