Astor House hotel demolished

Astor House was a prominent 19th-century hotel located at 217 Broadway that hosted politicians, writers, and foreign dignitaries. The hotel building was demolished in 1913 as Lower Manhattan commercial development intensified. The site has since been redeveloped for office and commercial use, erasing the physical presence of the original hotel.
