Fort Egypt

Fort Egypt is a historic log house located in Page County, Virginia, recognized as a landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built around 1758 by Jacob Strickler, a prominent figure in the Mennonite Church, the house features large logs and a central stone chimney. It includes a fortified cellar with loop holes, originally thought to offer protection against potential Indian attacks, although no such incidents are recorded. The house served as a meeting place for the Mennonite community before dedicated church buildings were established. Situated on a 1,000-acre tract granted to pioneer Abraham Strickler, Fort Egypt has been meticulously restored and is well-preserved, making it an intriguing site for both tourists and researchers interested in early American history and Mennonite heritage.
