Alamo (The Astor Place Cube)

Alamo, commonly called the "Astor Place Cube," is a painted steel sculpture by Tony Rosenthal installed at Astor Place in 1967. The cube sits balanced on one corner and was designed so people can push and spin it; it has become an iconic interactive public sculpture and meeting point in the East Village. The work is owned by the City of New York and is regularly photographed and engaged with by visitors.
