Sabir Central City Library

The Mirza Alakbar Sabir Central City Library, established in 1919 in downtown Baku, Azerbaijan, is a historic public library housed in a stunning baroque mansion built in 1904. Initially facing challenges in acquiring a diverse collection, it has grown significantly over the years, now boasting over 12,300 items and a vibrant community of readers. Named after the renowned Azerbaijani poet Mirza Alekper Sabir, the library has played a pivotal role in promoting literacy and education, particularly among women. It was the first in Azerbaijan to train professional librarians and has received accolades, including 'Best Library of the Year' in 2014.
