Carter G. Woodson Home National Historic Site

The Carter G. Woodson Home at 1538 9th Street NW was the residence of historian and 'Father of Black History' Carter G. Woodson from 1922 until his death in 1950. Designated a National Historic Site, the rowhouse preserves the domestic setting associated with Woodson's scholarship and the early development of African American history as an academic field. The site contains archival materials and interpretive exhibits about Woodson's life and the origins of Negro History Week, now observed as Black History Month.
