Ernst-Haeckel-Haus

Ernst-Haeckel-Haus, also known as Villa Medusa, is a historic building in Jena, Germany, serving as a key institution of the University of Jena's Faculty of Biological Sciences. Built between 1882 and 1883 in an Italianate style, it was the residence of renowned biologist Ernst Haeckel, who is celebrated for his artistic depictions of marine life. The villa features unique jellyfish-inspired decorations and houses Haeckel's archives, including around 38,000 letters and a research library. Established as a museum and archive in 1920, it is one of Germany's oldest institutes dedicated to the history of science and is open to the public through guided tours, offering insights into Haeckel's legacy and contributions to biology.
