Illawalla

Illawalla was an impressive Edwardian mansion located in Thornton, Lancashire, England, built in 1902 and known for being the largest bungalow in Europe at the time. Designed by architects Fairbrother & Hall, it featured grand rooms, a tower, and unique architectural details. The mansion served various purposes over the years, including a transit camp during World War II and a nightclub before its demolition in 1996. Today, its legacy lives on through the name of the road and the nearby cricket club, as well as cultural references in music. Visitors to the area can still see remnants of its history, including two carved stone pillars marking the entrance to the new homes that replaced it.
