9 The Shambles is a captivating historic building located in the heart of York, England. This two-storey timber-framed structure, dating back to the 15th century, features a distinctive jettied upper floor and attic that extend over the street. Originally part of a three-bay design, it now showcases two surviving bays alongside two additional bays from the 16th century. The building's roof and a brick chimney breast from the 17th century add to its charm, while an 18th-century renovation raised the first floor and enhanced its façade. Recognized as a Grade II* listed building since 1954, it underwent restoration starting in 1955. Today, it houses W. Hamond jewellers, renowned for its exquisite Whitby jet jewelry, making it a must-visit for tourists and researchers alike.
