Bunshaft Residence

The Bunshaft Residence, also known as the Travertine House, is a striking modernist home located on the shores of Georgica Pond in East Hampton, New York. Designed by renowned architect Gordon Bunshaft in 1962, the house features a unique rectangular structure made of poured-in-place concrete and clad in travertine, with expansive glass openings that invite natural light. The interior showcases a minimalist aesthetic with a focus on art, including pieces by famous artists like Pablo Picasso and Henry Moore. After Bunshaft's widow bequeathed the house to the Museum of Modern Art, it changed hands several times, including ownership by Martha Stewart, who initiated renovations that ultimately stalled. The original structure was demolished in 2004, making way for a new residence, but the Bunshaft Residence remains a notable example of mid-20th century architecture and design.
