International Hotel (Manilatown)

The International Hotel, commonly called the I-Hotel, was a residential hotel in Manilatown that housed many low-income and elderly Filipino and Chinese tenants. After a prolonged legal and community protest effort, the remaining tenants were forcibly evicted in August 1977 and the building was demolished later that year. The eviction and demolition became a landmark event in San Francisco's history of tenant rights and urban renewal activism. The original hotel building no longer stands at the site.
