Barton Springs archaeological deposits

The Barton Springs area in Zilker Park preserves archaeological deposits documenting Native American use extending back thousands of years. Archaeologists and city historical records state that the springs and surrounding terraces contain buried artifacts and features indicating human presence for at least 10,000–12,000 years. The site is treated as archaeologically sensitive and has produced buried cultural material during surveys and park projects. Barton Springs is managed as part of Zilker Park and documented by Austin Parks & Recreation and state inventories.
