Battle of the Alamo (Alamo Mission)

The Alamo Mission in San Antonio was the site of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo, fought February 23–March 6, 1836, during the Texas Revolution. A force of Texian defenders including James Bowie, William B. Travis, and Davy Crockett defended the mission against Mexican troops led by General Antonio López de Santa Anna. Mexican forces overran the mission and killed most of the defenders; the event became a rallying cry for Texian forces later in the war.
