Seaside Plantation

Seaside Plantation, also known as the Edgar Fripp Plantation, is a historic house located on Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, built between 1795 and 1810. This two-story dwelling showcases a blend of Georgian and Federal architectural styles, featuring a distinctive one-story hip-roofed portico. The plantation played a significant role in the Port Royal Experiment and was home to notable figures such as labor superintendent Charles Pickard Ware and Charlotte Forten Grimké. It is one of the few remaining antebellum plantation houses in the area, alongside Tombee Plantation, and includes original structures like a brick-lined well, a clapboard shed, a barn, and a unique silo made of concrete and oyster shells. Seaside Plantation was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, making it a valuable site for tourists and researchers interested in American history and architecture.
