Rocky Steps and Rocky Statue at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

The 72 steps leading to the Philadelphia Museum of Art were popularized by the 1976 film Rocky and are a longstanding neighborhood icon where visitors often run the steps as a tribute to the film. A bronze statue of the fictional boxer Rocky Balboa, created by A. Thomas Schomberg, stands on the museum grounds near the base of the steps and is a frequent photo subject for tourists. The steps and statue have become emblematic of the Fairmount neighborhood's cultural identity.
