Wave Organ (acoustic sculpture)

The Wave Organ is an experimental acoustic sculpture installed on a jetty at the San Francisco Marina that creates sound using the movement of tides through a system of pipes and chambers. Photographs and short recordings of the Wave Organ's unusual, tide-driven sounds and its rocky jetty setting are shared on social media and occasionally edited into meme formats highlighting San Francisco's unusual public artworks and coastal character. The installation was created in the late 1980s and is maintained as a public art feature along the waterfront.
