Seward Park shell middens and buried cultural deposits

Seward Park contains archaeological evidence of long-term Native American habitation, including shell middens and buried cultural deposits on the peninsula. Investigations have identified stratified layers and artifacts dating back thousands of years associated with Coast Salish use of the site. These deposits are buried beneath the park surface and are protected as archaeological resources.
