James Cogan House

The James Cogan House, located at 48 Elm Street in Stoneham, Massachusetts, is a historic example of Queen Anne architecture built around 1890 for James Cogan, the son of a local shoe manufacturer. This 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure features a gabled roof, a wraparound porch, and distinctive architectural elements like a projecting bay window and a multi-sided turret. Although some original features have been lost due to vinyl siding, the house retains its round porch columns and gable finials. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, it reflects the prosperity of the Cogan family and the local shoe industry, making it an interesting site for tourists and researchers alike.
