Manifattura Tabacchi

The Manifattura Tabacchi, located in Rovereto, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy, is a historic tobacco factory established in the mid-1800s during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Originally built to combat unemployment from a silk production crisis, it became a significant industrial site known for producing Virginia cigars and other tobacco products. The factory was a pioneer in social innovations, including the establishment of a nursery and workers' union. Despite facing challenges during both World Wars, it adapted and modernized over the years, eventually transitioning to cigarette production. After several ownership changes, production ceased in 2008. Today, the site is being redeveloped into a clean technology hub, showcasing the region's commitment to innovation and sustainability.
