The Cliffs

The Cliffs is a historic country house in East Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, built in 1753 by merchant Joshua Fisher. Overlooking the Schuylkill River, this Georgian-style stone house served as a summer retreat for Fisher's family and was notable for its role during the Revolutionary War, where Sarah Franklin Bache and her sewing group created supplies for soldiers. After being in the Fisher family for over a century, it was acquired by the Fairmount Park Commission in 1868. Unfortunately, the house suffered from vandalism and a devastating fire in 1986, leaving only a shell of its former self. Today, it stands as a poignant reminder of its rich history, visible from nearby roads during winter months.
