Schütting (Bremen)

The Schütting, located in the heart of Bremen's Marktplatz, is a historic building that has served as a guild house for merchants and tradesmen since its establishment. In 1849, it transitioned to become Bremen's chamber of commerce and has been a protected monument since 1973. The building showcases a blend of Late Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles, with significant renovations throughout the centuries, including a major reconstruction after a fire in 1944. Visitors can explore its impressive façade and learn about its rich history, including its role as the site of the first coffee house in the German-speaking world. The Schütting also houses the traditional gentlemen's club, Club zu Bremen, which has welcomed female members since 2000.
