United States Institute of Peace - federal institute devoted to conflict prevention

The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) was established by Congress in 1984 as an independent federal institution with a statutory mission to prevent, mitigate, and resolve violent international conflicts. USIP conducts research, provides training and analysis, and convenes practitioners and policymakers; it is the sole federal institution created specifically to focus on international peacebuilding and conflict prevention. The Institute operates a public headquarters with research and educational programs in Washington, D.C.
