Lewis Mountain

Lewis Mountain, also known as Onteora, is a historic house located near Charlottesville, Virginia, completed in 1912. This Colonial Revival style dwelling features a unique three-part granite design, highlighted by a massive wooden cornice and a striking portico with Doric columns. The property boasts a beautifully landscaped garden designed by Warren H. Manning, featuring terraces and stone walls. An intriguing urban legend suggests that the house inspired Dr. Seuss's Grinch character, who overlooks the 'Whos' from his mountaintop. Lewis Mountain was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers alike.
