Sutro Baths (ruins)

Adolph Sutro opened the Sutro Baths in 1896 as a large privately owned public saltwater swimming complex featuring multiple pools and a glass-roofed structure. The complex closed and the main building burned in 1966; the site remains as historical ruins and interpretive exhibits within the Lands End area. It is managed as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and is documented as a notable element of San Francisco's late 19th- and early 20th-century leisure culture.
