The Mirage Volcano

The Mirage's volcano debuted with the resort's opening in 1989 and performs choreographed fire, water, lighting, and sound eruptions as a free nightly attraction on the Las Vegas Strip. The effects are staged in a man-made lagoon in front of the hotel and use pyrotechnics and timed audio to simulate volcanic eruptions. The volcano became a high-profile example of the spectacle-driven resort attractions that characterize late-20th-century Strip development.
