Bloody Thursday - 1934 West Coast Waterfront Strike shootings

On July 5, 1934, during the West Coast Waterfront Strike, police fired on striking longshoremen and picketers on the San Francisco waterfront in an incident known as "Bloody Thursday." Two picketers were killed and dozens were injured in confrontations along the Embarcadero piers adjacent to the Ferry Building. The shootings helped precipitate the San Francisco general strike and are regarded as a pivotal event in U.S. labor history. The Ferry Building sits at the waterfront near the historic site of the clashes.
