Strathleven House

Strathleven House is a historic early 18th-century country house located in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, just north of Dumbarton. Built in 1700, it is recognized as the earliest surviving example of the classic Palladian country house style in Scotland, likely designed by architect James Smith. The estate has a rich history, originally owned by the Fleming family in the 14th century and later by notable figures such as William Cochrane, 1st Earl of Dundonald. The house features a contemporary dovecote and has undergone various ownership changes and restorations over the centuries. After a period of neglect, it was restored in the late 1990s and is now used for office accommodation and conference facilities. Visitors can explore its architectural significance and the surrounding grounds, which once included an ancient oak tree linked to Robert the Bruce.
