Lovamahapaya

Lovamahapaya, also known as the Brazen Palace, is a historic temple located in the ancient city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, between the Ruwanweliseya and Sri Mahabodiya. This remarkable structure, originally built by King Dutugemunu, was renowned for its nine stories and impressive 1600 stone pillars. It served as a significant religious site where the Sangha gathered on Poya days. Although the original building was destroyed, the site remains a vital part of Sri Lanka's cultural heritage, showcasing the architectural grandeur of ancient times. Today, a smaller version serves as the Uposatha house for the Maha Vihara, continuing its legacy as a place of worship and community gathering.
