Kotva Department Store

Kotva Department Store, located in Prague's Republic Square, is a notable shopping destination with a rich history. Built between 1970 and 1975, it was designed by the Czech architect couple Věra and Vladimir Machonin and was once the largest department store in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. The store's unique hexagonal design and its role as a symbol of abundance during socialism make it an architectural landmark. In 2019, it was designated a cultural monument, ensuring its preservation. Currently undergoing a major renovation, Kotva will soon feature fashion, cosmetics, and office spaces, while retaining its significance in Prague's urban landscape.
