Round Tower (Vyborg)

The Round Tower, located in the market square of Vyborg, is a historic fortification built between 1547 and 1550 under the orders of Gustav I of Sweden. Originally serving as an arsenal, it later functioned as a prison known as 'The Mutton Prison' and a warehouse, before being repurposed by the city magistrate in 1861. In 1938, during Finland's ownership of Vyborg, the tower was renovated into a restaurant designed by architect Uno Ullberg. With a diameter of approximately 21 meters (69 feet), the Round Tower is now one of Vyborg's most popular attractions, offering visitors a glimpse into the city's rich history.
