Cork North Infirmary

The Cork North Infirmary, originally established in 1720, was the first general hospital in Cork, Ireland, starting with just 24 beds and expanding to 115 over the years. It played a significant role during the Great Famine as a fever hospital and treated wounded soldiers from World War I and injured Republicans during the War of Independence. After closing in 1987, the historic building was transformed into the Maldron Hotel, preserving its rich history while providing modern accommodations for visitors.
