The Nines / Meier & Frank Building (department store turned luxury hotel)

The Nines hotel occupies the historic Meier & Frank Department Store building in downtown Portland, a large early-20th-century commercial block adaptively reused as a luxury hotel and retail space. The conversion retained notable interior features such as the former banking hall and decorative elements while integrating modern hospitality functions. The project is a frequently cited example of preserving and repurposing a landmark downtown department store.
