Wylie House

Wylie House, built in 1835 in Bloomington, Indiana, is a historic home that served as the residence of Andrew Wylie, the first president of Indiana University, until his death in 1851. The house showcases a unique blend of Georgian and Federal architectural styles and was surrounded by a 20-acre farmstead with various outbuildings. After Andrew Wylie's family, Theophilus Adam Wylie, a professor and half-cousin, purchased the house in 1859, it became a hub for scientific advancements, including Indiana's first telephone. Today, Wylie House operates as a museum, offering insights into the lives of the Wylie families and the evolution of Bloomington from a frontier settlement to a college town.
