Busboys and Poets (14th Street)

Founded by Andy Shallal, the original Busboys and Poets opened in 2005 at 2021 14th Street NW as a combined restaurant, bookstore, and performance space. It quickly became a neighborhood cultural hub known for author readings, spoken-word events, and political discussions. The venue has since grown to multiple locations but the 14th Street site remains an iconic gathering place in the city.
