Presidio archaeological record and monitoring program

The Presidio of San Francisco contains numerous documented archaeological sites, including Native American shell midden deposits and features from Spanish, Mexican, and American military occupation. Systematic archaeological surveys and monitoring have recorded habitation layers, structural foundations, and artifacts spanning precontact through 19th‑century military use. The Presidio maintains inventories and archaeological oversight as part of its historic resource management.
