Alexandra Theatre, London

The Alexandra Theatre, opened in 1897 in Stoke Newington, London, was a vibrant cultural hub with a capacity of over 2,000 seats. Designed by renowned architect Frank Matcham, it hosted a variety of performances, including the first show 'Dick Whittington'. Over the years, it transitioned from live theatre to cinema and back again, showcasing diverse events such as boxing matches and Yiddish theatre. Notable productions included a 1947 adaptation of 'The Snow Queen'. Despite its rich history, the theatre closed in 1950 and was demolished in the 1960s, making way for modern developments.
