Bockenheimer Depot

The Bockenheimer Depot, located in Frankfurt's Bockenheim quarter, is a historic former tram depot built around 1900, now serving as a vibrant theatre venue for Baroque and contemporary opera. Originally a workshop for electric trams, it has transformed over the years, surviving World War II with minor damage and evolving into a cultural hub after its closure in 1978. The architecture features striking yellow bricks and a unique wooden roof inspired by French Renaissance design. With a seating capacity of around 400, it hosts performances by Oper Frankfurt and other companies, showcasing significant works like the German premiere of Olga Neuwirth's Lost Highway. This listed monument offers a glimpse into Frankfurt's industrial past while enriching its artistic landscape.
