Colorado State Capitol (gold dome and one-mile marker)

The Colorado State Capitol at the west end of the Civic Center features a gold-leafed dome installed to honor the state's gold mining history. The building's west steps contain a marker that denotes exactly one mile (5,280 feet) above sea level measured at a point on the 13th step, a commonly cited tourist fact. The capitol houses the offices of the governor and the Colorado General Assembly and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
