Walnut Street Theatre - oldest continuously operating U.S. theatre

The Walnut Street Theatre opened in 1809 and is widely recognized as the oldest continuously operating theater in the United States. Over its history it has hosted touring companies, premieres, and local productions and remains an active performance venue. The theater building has undergone numerous renovations but retains its historic function as a major cultural institution in Philadelphia.
