Howard Pyle Studios

The Howard Pyle Studios, located near Brandywine Park in Delaware, are historic buildings that served as both a painting studio and a teaching space for the renowned illustrator Howard Pyle. Constructed in 1883 and 1900, these Tudor Revival-style structures reflect Pyle's fascination with English architecture. The main studio, with its steeply pitched roof and distinctive gable, was where Pyle created many of his works, while the smaller studio was dedicated to teaching, hosting notable students like N.C. Wyeth and Frank Schoonover. After Pyle's death in 1911, the studios changed ownership several times before being acquired by the Studio Group in 1964. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, making them a significant site for art enthusiasts and historians alike.
