Central Academy

The Central Academy, established in 1892 in Palatka, Florida, is a significant historic site as the first accredited African-American high school in the state, achieving this status in 1924. The original building was lost to a fire in 1936, and the current structure was built in 1937. It has served various purposes over the years, including as a transportation office for the school district. Listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places since 1998, efforts are underway to restore this important landmark, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring African-American educational history.
