Newell A. Whiting House

The Newell A. Whiting House, located in Onawa, Iowa, is a historic Italianate-style building constructed in the mid-19th century. Built by hardware merchant and sawmill owner Newell A. Whiting for his second wife, this 2+1⁄2-story brick house features distinctive architectural elements such as bracketed eaves, wall dormers, and tall, narrow windows with metal hood moldings. Notable for its bay windows and an east-facing porch, the house is topped with a hip roof and a cupola. It was recognized for its historical significance and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, making it an interesting site for tourists and researchers alike.
