The Sphere (Fritz Koenig)

The Sphere is a bronze sculpture by Fritz Koenig commissioned for the original World Trade Center plaza and installed in 1971. It sustained damage during the September 11, 2001 attacks, was moved to Battery Park in 2002 as a temporary memorial, and was relocated to Liberty Park adjacent to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in 2017. The preserved damage on the sculpture is maintained as part of its role as a memorial element.
