Bangladesh Secretariat

The Bangladesh Secretariat, located in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, serves as the administrative headquarters of the Government of Bangladesh, housing numerous ministries and government agencies. Originally built as the Secretariat of East Pakistan, it has a rich history marked by significant events, including the introduction of free WiFi in 2015 and the declaration of a smoke-free zone in 2017. The Secretariat is known for its high visitor traffic, receiving around 1,200 visitors daily, and has been the site of notable incidents, such as a fire in 2019 and a controversial detention of a journalist in 2021. Plans for a new secretariat building closer to the Prime Minister's Office were proposed but ultimately canceled, ensuring the Secretariat remains a central hub of governance in Bangladesh.
