Castle Mont Rouge

Castle Mont Rouge is a unique architectural gem located on Red Mountain in Rougemont, North Carolina, designed by sculptor Robert Mihaly. Inspired by Central and Eastern European styles, the castle features 18 pinnacles and a turret, giving it a fairytale-like appearance. Construction began in 2000 without a blueprint, but the castle was abandoned in 2006. After a fundraising campaign in 2014 and subsequent restoration efforts starting in 2017, Mihaly aims to complete the castle for his children. Known for its quirky charm and mysterious lore, Castle Mont Rouge is often described as one of the most bizarre buildings in North Carolina, making it an intriguing destination for tourists and researchers alike.
